Hot Springs is known for its spa-town culture, trails, and horse racing rush. But it’s also a great city for fishing enthusiasts. How can you, as an RVer, plan a fishing trip to this mountain-meets-city getaway?
Read on for a list of the best fishing campgrounds in or around Hot Springs!
Fish Near Your RV in Hot Springs
Let’s start with an overview of the best local spots.
Easy Access to Lakes, Creeks, and Local Fishing Spots
The best fishing campsites offer access to one of the top water bodies in the area: Lake Hamilton, Gulpha Creek, Lake Ouachita, or Caddo River.
Lake Hamilton Fishing
This massive, 120-foot deep lake is only 15–20 minutes from Hot Springs. Although it’s man-made, it’s biodiverse.
Popular Lake With Easy Access and Multiple Species
Lake Hamilton offers a wide range of classic Arkansas species, including bass, crappie, and catfish.
The lake is productive year-round (with over 2,000 logged catches on Fishbrain!). However, summer is the prime time.
RV Parks With Lake Access and Fishing Docks
Campers and RVers might want to consider the following parks:
- Lake Hamilton RV Resort (81 20×50-foot lots)
- Treasure Isle RV Park (65 full-hookup sites)
- Paradise Island Campground and RV Park
Gulpha Creek Fishing
The Gulpha Gorge Campground in Hot Springs National Park accommodates RVs, with 40 full-hookup sites. You’ll find both 30-amp and 50-amp electric connections, along with water and sewer connections.
Quiet Creek Fishing in Hot Springs National Park
Longear sunfish, rock bass, and creek chub are among the top species reported in the stream.
The park itself is pretty relaxed and quiet. Yet, it’s still an urban park nestled in the heart of downtown Hot Springs. You’ll find plenty of nearby diners, shops, and attractions to fill a long stay.
Side Note: You can’t stay at the campsite for more than 14 consecutive days.
Lake Ouachita Fishing
About 30 minutes from Hot Springs is Lake Ouachita State Park, a perfect spot for water recreation, with a rich marine life and a 975-mile shoreline.
Deep, Clear Water for Serious Anglers
The fishing conditions at Lake Ouachita are challenging but rewarding. Thanks to its sheer size, the lake is home to many fish species, from bass (largemouth and striped) and crappie to walleye and bream.
The temperature is moderate year-round, and the lake never freezes.
Campgrounds and Access Tips for RVers
The park’s campground offers 58 full-hookup sites, several of which run along the lake.
Caddo River Fishing
The Caddo River begins in the Ouachita Mountains and runs through several local communities before being impounded to form DeGray Lake.
But for the best fishing experience, you’ll want to hit the spot about 40 miles above DeGray Lake.
Scenic River Fishing for Bass and Trout
The area is known for smallmouth and spotted bass species. If you time your visit in March or April, you might find hybrid striped bass.
The Glenwood camping location, right on the river, offers electric and water hookups, making it suitable for RVers.
